I have been meditating regularly for several years now. But for several months, I tried to ‘integrate’ the meditative mind into all of my daily life, for which I gave up on focused meditation. I wanted to stay in that mindset for the whole day. I guess I also was stuck at that point and needed some kind of break. I was relatively successful. But later, I realized that not doing focused meditation is actually messing me up. I started feeling worse than before. I started back on my focused meditation and it helps greatly and instantly. So, maybe, it is not either or. It is both. Both focused meditation and mindful state of mind.
Focused meditation should not be given up. Even I have tried experimenting with my meditation habits but it only messes up my internal balance. All the daily activities and the chaos of life creates a turmoil within and my daily meditation practices help me to restore the inner balance and peace. Om

Yes, I agree! I have also been experimenting, which is fine as long as I keep some kind of focused meditation is a part of it. Now I learnt it!

This is such an enlightening post Betul. I have tried meditation but never passed the initial stage where the thoughts just wander off….maybe I can try the guided meditation to get me through the first phase where I can atleast sit for a few mins and feel the peace.

That helped me a lot! I would definitely give up if I had started with silent meditation. Also, the mindfulness class instructor said that he was not able to go 6 seconds without his mind wandering at first. But now he can go 6 hours. It is a matter of practice and patience.

Ok, I just realized I made a mistake there. It should be an hour (but I am sure he can go more). But he goes on retreats, when they do 8-10 hours of meditation a day. This is mind-blowing!

It is! I was able to do it several times in a group setting and it is indeed great! But I can’t do it on my own.
