I have always been in love with linguistics, which is why I have devoted half of my life to it. But today, after a full day at a linguistics conference (which went very well, by the way), I badly wanted to go to my new love: writing. Writing is probably as important to me as linguistics now.
Good luck with your new interest

How did you get into linguistics?

It was actually in high school. We had 24 hours of English classes a week. I loved learning English. Then I also found historical changes in Turkish (my mother tongue) very interesting in our history class. That was the start. Then, Introduction to Linguistics class in the first year of college got me into it. So, I have been in it since then:)

I recently found out that there is quite a lot of Turkish words in the Greek language. These are just normal words that you hear in Greece but you don’t think about it until someone points it out and then you realise why you have remembered them. There different to the rest.

I wouldn’t be surprised if there were words. In fact, we also have words from Greek. It is a nice proof of the interaction we had throughout the history and this is a positive thing.

Things are always far more interconnected than we realize. It’s good to remember that we are often more similar than we are different.

Exactly! The deeper you look, the more similarities you see! But if you want to see them, because the other way is also true. If you want to see differences, you will see them too. I prefer seeing the similarities because they are more exciting and to me, more true.
