The instructor in the mindfulness class had asked the same thing again. It just did not make sense to her to write down things that she already knew about. What use was to write three things to be grateful for every day? She already knew it. She was aware of all the things she had. Why would she write down her feelings when she already felt them herself? They were in her!
She walked home thinking these. She regretted registering for the class and all the time she spent there. She just got useless advice. She decided to drop the class next week.
As she approached her home, she heard some noises from the next-door neighbor. She saw some technicians as she walked by. She entered her apartment, dropped her backpack and walked to the bathroom to wash her hands.
But she could not because there was no water. She checked all the taps in her place and none had water. This had never happened before. She was not sure who to ask about this, so she just walked to the technicians next door.
Apparently, there was some leak in her neighbor’s home, so they had to cut it all off to fix it and to make sure that other apartments are not affected badly. Worse, they did not know how long it would take them to fix it because they had not solved the problem yet.
She came back home, took out a notebook and a pen. She titled the page ‘Gratitude List 1/21/2020’. Then she added the first line: water.
I found that when people struggle to find sincere gratitude in the blessings already manifesting in their life, the quickest way to honest sincerity is to lose something important to them. In the loss, true meaning is often found.

Exactly! I didn’t realize how valuable my arm/hand was until I broke my wrist. We take these simple things for granted.

And yet so often, so many take their time to complain about things not being good when those simple things are all around to bask in the goodness of.
Truly it is all a matter of where you focus your perspective.
Do you wish to see the good?
Or do you wish to drown in the bad?

The answer is clear. The implication is not always easy. It is a learning process. But these two questions need to be our guiding light in the process.

It definitely is a process of learning and growing! But having those questions keep the focus on choosing right. Because in any given moment, if the thought is do I wish to drown or float, is there really a choice to be made?

We only realise the importance of something, when we lose it. Good one..

Wonderful story to explain the importance of gratitude in our daily life. So many times it happens that we start our gratitude list when we are going through some problem and it comes directly from our heart. Wish we continued practicing it as often as possible.

I have a journal titled, “Good Days Begin with Gratitude.” I start each day with my devotionals, meditation, prayer, Bible Study, and before I leave that spot, I write 3 things (or more sometimes) for which I’m thankful about yesterday. Starting my day’s journey with gratitude for yesterday’s highlights puts a bounce in today’s steps ♥️🙏👍

Awesome strategy! There are so many good things in our daily lives that we start ignoring them. It is good to remind ourselves of them!

If we can be mindful all the time – We have arrived. Nothing else is needed
