Let’s complete the story below:
She was going to meet her dad for the first time in 10 years. Since her dad left them, he had not called them nor did they know his whereabouts. But now he had suddenly wanted to meet her. Although she was very reluctant to meet this man initially, she later decided that she was interested in hearing what he had to say.
With these thoughts in mind, she parked her car and walked to the restaurant they were going to meet at. She walked in and saw him. ‘Oh boy’, she said to herself. ‘Here we go’. [Your continuation goes here]
She approached her dad who was sitting by the window, looking outside. She sat facing her father and said, “Hello, Dad.”
The man snapped out of his daydream and looked back at her, bewildered. “Lucia, I can’t believe it. It’s been a very long while, Daughter.”
“Too long,” she said. “Why do you want to meet me?”
Her dad fidgeting with his fingers, not looking at her for several good minutes, even after Lucia told the waitress their order. Finally, he smiled and said, “You still remember my favorite.”
“I never forget you, Dad,” she said, staring directly to his eyes. “You do.”

He rose to greet her and kissed her gently on the cheek and hugged as if there had never been any distance between them. She felt her anxieties evaporate as easily as the conversation flowed between them. Why had she been so nervous of this meet, why hadn’t she bothered making the effort before now?
“There’s no subtle way of bringing this up” her father said as he finished the last swill of his drink. “I’m getting married and it’s important to me that you are there. I want to share one of the happiest days of my life with you. Please say you’ll come?”
She could sense that despite his usual confident delivery that he was nervous. He was waiting trying to read the reaction in her eyes. “What? Of course, of course I’ll be there! I love you, Dad! So, tell me, tell me all about her! How long have you been seeing her, where did you meet? I can see she makes you happy, you’re grinning like a child!”
“Thank you my dear, thank you. You’ve made my day! Yes. I’m very happy. I really am. She is a he and his name is Conrad and…”

Until I hit the last sentence, I was thinking ‘Interesting she could forgive easily’ and in fact it made me happy. But then the last line pointed out to a big conflict people might have, which I didn’t expect to come up, and her forgiveness made me even happier:)

Soooooooooo, do I listen to my mind or do I listen to my heart?.. will we be father and daughter, or strangers when we part?.. will I walk through the threshold to happiness, or the same road of emptiness?… as I nervously open the door a thought pops into my mind “Don’t be pushed around by the fears in your mind. Be led by the dreams in your heart.” (Roy T. Bennett)… 🙂
“Holding on to bitterness is like taking poison and expecting the other person to die (Author Unknown).

Oh my God! Both quotes are so on point! The first one is a very nice collection of dilemmas and the second one is such a good analogy! Thank you for sharing!
