Here is this week’s story to complete.
She just wanted to sit on her balcony. This damn cat was just not letting this happen. She was afraid the cat would do something crazy and would jump down. That is why she had avoided it until today but today she really wanted sit on the balcony. Why did she have a balcony if she would not be able to sit there? So, she sat on the table on the balcony and started reading. Right then, she saw the cat running fast towards her. [Your continuation goes here].
These are fun, Betul. Here’s my continuation.
The tabby leapt onto the narrow railing like a gymnast on a beam. She slowly lowered her book, afraid to make any sudden movements. A four story fall from the balcony would kill the creature and she’d never forgive herself. Then an idea struck. She opened her book and pretended to be absorbed in the words. Sure enough, the cat jumped onto her book, lay across the pages, and begged for rubs.

So, in one single moment of desperate inspiration, she yelled (quite aloud!) to the cat (whose name, to her, had always been “JoJo”):
“Jojo!! Seriously!! Why are you making me worried that you might fall to your literal doom?! Don’t you know I care about you, and that your messing around near the brink of disaster, eleven freaking floors up, makes my heart jump?? And I mean, not in a good way, either. Just cut it out already, and chill!! Jeebus!”
No, really- she said all of that, out loud, to her cat.
What happened next was curious.
Jojo (the cat), stopped at once in his reckless approach, and as though he for certain suddenly understood something novel and new.
At this point, in his cat’s mind, he thought this (more or less) to himself, and in the woman’s direction as well:
“What, wait. Oh! I see. You *care* about me, and my safety. I hadn’t known that really, until just now. You have never felt that so strongly – and out loud – so that I might feel and then know it too”
Upon further reflection (and efficiently, in a true cat’s manner), he continued to think aloud to himself and to his person (the woman, who to him had always been “Melody”):
“This then changes everything. I hadn’t considered what I have meant to you, but now I must”
Of course the woman saw only that her cat had stopped abruptly in response to her plea for some kind of sanity, regarding the protocol of the balcony… and so she wondered to herself, *did my cat just hear my words? No. But did he?? No….*
And meanwhile, the cat – having considered this change of circumstance, continued, “I will need to reassess my actions around you and this balcony, then”, and sat himself down at once, upon the fake ground (which was the balcony’s concrete floor), in a thoughtful cat fashion.
Both the woman and the cat then proceeded to consider the other for an additional moment, and what had just happened between them both. There was some new kind of understanding, though neither could fully understand its extent, quite yet.
[this narrative is handed to the next narrator, should they wish to be so!]

Oh, I love this telepathic communication! I wonder if that happens after all! Lovely result, though!
I hope a narrator picks this up and continues it.

Then, Albermarle (my cat’s name) came to a skidding halt. She sat pertly and tilted her head. Her large gray eyes stared at me, as if to ask, “what are you doing in my seat?” I smiled politely before speaking. “My dear girl, this is my seat. I live here. I pay the rent. Please try to keep this in mind. You’re welcome to sit in MY seat any time you like WHEN I”M NOT SITTING HERE.
Albermarle let out a long, plaintive “MEOW.” Then, she scampered away to chase a dragonfly.

Judging by the ferocity of her approach, I thought my pet cat, Albermarle, was preparing to leap into my lap and claw at me mercilessly like an enraged lioness. Instead, she skidded to a halt a foot away from my chair. Striking a pert pose on my terrace floor, she tilted her head sideways while gazing at me with her big grey eyes.
If cats talked, I swear Albermarle would be saying something like, “What are you doing sitting in my chair?”
Now, it must be said that I enjoy the view of the beach and the ocean from my terrace on a high floor of the condo where I live. It’s especially beautiful at night when passing cruise ships light up the water. Unfortunately, I don’t get to enjoy the view often enough due to my studies and my job.
In my absences, someone else had apparently grew accustomed to admiring the view.
“My dear girl,” I said to Albermarle. “I live here, too. May I also remind you that I’m the one who pays the rent. Therefore, I have first dibs on this chair. If I’m not here, which, as you know, is often, please feel free to take my place. Now, do we understand each other?”
Albermarle let out a long, plaintive “MEOW”. She continued to stare at me, as if to appeal her case. Then something caught her attention. She shot away to chase a dragonfly.

I used to freeze if I saw a cat in the street. I’m better now but the thought of a cat running towards me is terrifying
